St. Francis of Assisi Prayer Canvas

Overview: My mom requested a new art piece to hang on the wall in her updated bathroom.

Problem: My mom previously had a rustic style, 8×20 piece with the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi printed on it. However, after updating the bathroom it was hanging in, the rustic piece no longer matched the more modern look of the room. So I needed to create a more modern version of it that matched new new color scheme and modern style.

Solution: To match the now purple-colored walls, I utilized a purple and blue watercolor background. I placed the darker parts of watercolor splotches along the two long edges of the canvas to create a nice border along the text down the middle. I decided to use two different fonts and font sizes throughout the prayer to bring emphasis to the key words in a similar manner to the original piece my mom had. I chose Almyra for the larger words due to it’s pretty, yet readable nature and used Apple Chancery for the smaller text to compliment it. In the end, the watercolor background and the curvy fonts resulted in a much more modern look.
